Danielle – Yesterday was the Taylor’s surgery to further investigate the swollen, redden area on Taylor’s left leg. After looking at the CT scan the doctors couldn’t be certain that fluid building at the skin surface was the spot the fluid originated. What they feared was there was an infectious pocket of fluid deeper within the leg and the swollenness at the surface of the leg was the fluid what erupted from the deeper pocket. They said the scan didn’t clearly state what kind of situation they were dealing with but they could assess the situation once they were in the OR.
Thank God, once the doctors got in there they found it was just a puss filled pocket at the surface of the skin. They drained the pocket, cleaned out the area, and then stitched it back up (about a 4 inch incision). While Taylor was under there was another area wound care had been treating that the surgeons decided to put a stitch in. Nothing that must be done but should help it heal faster and since his left leg was already going to be sore from the original sight might as well address everything.
As soon as Taylor got out of surgery he was ready to get going. He knew that a bunch of Navy guys from the command were coming up. Since he ended up going into surgery later than expected, he didn’t want to keep them waiting. Plus, I think he was just a littleexcited to see everyone! There ended up being probably 15 guys that came up. We went over to the Navy Lodge and hung out on the patio so everyone didn’t have to scrunch into a hospital room. Everyone hung out, snacked on some food, and huddled around Taylor for stories. We talked until almost 10:30pm. We called it a night when the lighting started up; I figured rain and an electric wheelchair didn’t mix well. Plus, all the boys had a 3.5 hour drive back down to Virginia Beach. Taylor had so much fun seeing everyone and catching up, nothing like the Navy brotherhood.
By the time we got back we, had a midnight snack, washed our faces, and brushed our teeth; I was exhausted. Taylor and I were chatting when we were lying in bed. I must have thought we were done talking because this morning Taylor told me I fell asleep mid conversation. Whoops…
Today was a pretty chill day for it being a week day. Taylor and I actual slept in until 930. We did breakfast, visited with the Wounded EOD program, talked with our Navy liaison, called on some bills back home… Then I headed back to the hotel to get a run in and shower up. Taylor had PT and OT back-to-back today but tomorrow we should be back on the normal schedule of 1030-12 (PT) and 1-2(OT).
After therapy we had two friends come up. Travis from Virginia Beach was able to get a new key made for Taylor’s jeep, since Taylor accidentally took his original set to Afghanistan (you never know when you’ll need your jeep keys over there I guess haha). So he brought up the jeep today. Juli and I will now be mobile!! Travis did warn us that the battery is dead so that will need to be replaced…one step closer to being mobile I meant to say. All the boys went outside to enjoy the weather and catch up with one another, while I tried to sift through emails.
The rest of the night was pretty relaxing. I CANNOT believe it is already Wednesday; this week has flown by!
PS SORRY THIS IS SO DELAYED. THE INTERNET HASN’T BEEN WORKING IN THE HOSPITAL ROOM. Just had to walk to another room to get some WIFI so I could post this. Hope all is well with everyone else!
He took his keys with him too? I thought my husband was the only silly one to do that! I was looking everywhere for his keys while we were Skyping one day when he was in Balad, Iraq and he looks in his foot locker and they were in there. Now what are you doing to do with your keys to a car that is back in the states? Crazy boys!
